Stoicism Will Change YOU
Apply Stoicism to YOUR Life
Welcome to my Sunday Newsletter
Hi Subscriber,
Thank you for continuing to read and I hope you enjoy my newsletter.
Why Stoicism?
As a teenager, I was into football and golf and generally occupied by sports, video games, or books.
My friends were not readers I was the odd one out.
As I grew older I started reading biographies and science books more and more.
My journey continued into philosophy and then eventually my favourite stoic book of all time Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.
Stoic teachings resonated with me and my suggestion is to study stoicism deeply to help with your heart, mind, and logos.
What does Stoicism teach us?
In the real world, what do we learn and apply from Stoicism?
Ever get into a conversation that escalates into a full-blown argument that you later regret? You can learn through Stoicism that delaying a response or even no response at all, gives you time to collect your thoughts or leave a situation that doesn't require your attention.
Remaining calm in situations you can or cannot control is linked to maturity. Age is a number. Maturity is calmness.
The delay or distance from the situation gives you time to reflect with a calm mind. We cannot see through stormy waters.
What about constantly reacting to situations in an overly emotional state? This will leave you exhausted with little clarity of thought on how to resolve a tough situation you can control.
Do not put your energy into situations you cannot control. Observe and learn.
Stoicism challenges your thought process.
The biggest challenge I had with stoicism was the philosophy towards death.
Death cannot harm you so why fear it?
We are all forgotten when we pass.
Worrying about things that we consider important but in the grand scheme of life, they are insignificant when you see the zoomed-out big picture.
In conclusion, read about the philosophy of Stoicism and apply it to your life and thought process.
I wish you all the very best
Tony
