Be Optimistic

Be Optimistic

On a recent Space Elon said ‘I would rather be optimistic and wrong than be pessimistic and right.

This mindset fuels growth and purpose.

Do you recognise in yourself or in others the catastrophe mindset? If you say often enough that something will go wrong or turn out bad at some point you will be right. The huge downside to this mindset is fear and the paralyzing nature of worrying about a bad outcome.

Let’s be realistic bad things do happen but constantly predicting bad things will not help.

Imagine a scenario with opposite mindsets:

You want to learn martial arts but you decide against it because you don’t want to look silly or hurt yourself. Everyone there will be in good shape and I’m not. I’m scared.

You want to learn martial arts and you can’t wait because it will be humbling and fire up new pathways in your brain. Allow you to defend yourself and the confidence you will get from knowing you have this ability. It will get me even fitter and help me mentally too. You will walk through fear.

Now, the second mindset allows you to try new things, use fear as fuel, and maintain a growth mindset.

The optimistic mindset comes naturally to some through lucky genes. Other people have negative DNA which means they have to fight and practise a positive/optimistic mindset. The important part is recognising you fit in the pessimistic camp because then you can do something about it.

My suggestion is to write down your thoughts for the day in a journal. A journal entry written by you that you read is like someone else talking to you. It gives you distance from negative thoughts.

Practise, practise, practise.

Train yourself to look on the bright side.

Use positive words.

Replace ‘I can’t do it’ with ‘How can I do it’.

I love it when I hear optimistic views on Spaces it makes me feel better. Yes, there are events that occur in the world and to ourselves which are negative which we must speak about and challenge but we can offer solutions and not just complaints.
