Meditation
Dear reader,
The art of meditation.
A concise opening:
Meditation started months ago for me, not years. I am a meditating beginner. I started with 3 minutes now 15 minutes is normal. You cannot mess up meditating but you do need to start.
What to do?
Find yourself in an extremely quiet spot.
Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor.
Focus on your breath in and out.
If your mind wanders focus your mind back to your breath.
Keep the initial efforts at mediatations short, do not force it, keep it simple.
2 minutes focusing on your breath.
This is mediation.
Why meditate?
To keep you present.
Writing can be circuitous. Writing lots of words to artificially create value. Not in this email!
We exist in a world of distraction with dopamine hits on every mindless scroll of a mobile phone, hours of TV, and too much thought on the past and the future.
Mediation is about the breath, the now, and the present.
A constant thread in stoicism is staying present.
If we die today the only thing we lose is now. No matter who you are or what you’re doing. The now is the only thing you lose.
Foresight and memories are a person’s blessing and a curse.
Meditation keeps you present. If your mind wanders focus back on breathing.
15 minutes of complete stillness, no fidgeting, itching, or movement.
Live in the now.
You, your breath, and silence.
Beautiful!
Meditate daily.
All the best,
Tony
