The Key to X Growth is Networking

Hello to you all,

Networking was and still is vital to my growth on X and in real life.

Networking is how successful business people get ahead.

In Meditations, Aurelius has this to say about being a loner:

“Don’t be ashamed of needing help. You have a duty to fulfill just like a soldier on the wall of battle. So what if you are injured and can’t climb up without another soldier’s help?”

Marcus Aurelius was literally a guy who ruled the world and he understood the need for help.

When starting in business, being a sole trader, an employee, a coach, or a social influencer you have to reach out.

A stark memory of starting my X account was taking an hour to write my first post. Once I posted I excitedly waited for the avalanche of positive comments, likes, and retweets to then get the bone-crushing disappointment of getting zero likes and almost zero impressions.

After a week of consistently underwhelming post responses, I reached out to big accounts for help. To my surprise, they answered questions with no problem and at no cost. I messaged small accounts in my niche and we started to comment on each other's posts and retweet as long as we liked the content.

It never ceases to amaze me how the same accounts will continue to post on social media with little or no engagement and little follower growth.

Once you have a network of accounts I encourage you to regularly message your content to have them engage with reposted, likes and comments. Your engagement will improve. It’s a great feeling and you will feel inspired.

Be a bit nicer to everyone you meet and with compound interest your network will grow. The next step is how to do it.

On X it is by DM or on Spaces.

In real life, it is by phone, text, email, conversation, or word of mouth.

You never know who you are having a conversation with. Could be the next big X account, could be a buyer from a huge organisation you need.

Adapt to your environment!

A DM to an account on X should be quick to the point.  Go straight to why you’re messaging. It is not like a chat in the pub where you ask how their family is, how work is, and so on. It doesn’t work when messaging on X.

In an informal relaxed environment in a cafe over a coffee, you can have the chit-chat as the environment dictates.

In a meeting with some important buyers, your dialogue will be different to both the above conversations.

Learn to read the room!

For any content creators, a quick tip is to DM on X and then take the conversation to somewhere like Telegram. Conversation and sharing content is much easier on Telegram than on X.

Self-awareness is a huge part of networking. You need to have the ability to identify your own strengths and weaknesses. Realize which areas of yourself you can improve and you’ll be able to identify areas where you can network to plug those gaps.

Be self-critical about your daily habits. Are they benefitting you and your lines of income?

Your daily habits will create your beliefs and your identity and from there you will recognize what you need to do to make your business, or place your social account, in front of more eyes.

A huge celebrity can create a big following on X because they already have the attention. Most people are not in that category.

I thought I could create an audience on my own, but it became self-evident that it would be a long, painful, and possibly fruitless road.

I had much to learn. When to post, how to write a thread hook, creating a thread, where to find content, and how to create comments. I learned many things but also, I realized my weaknesses and worked on them.

Network with people that have been there and done it. I’ve created a huge social media account with other people’s help who have been there and done it. Create relationships with different size accounts in the same niche.

Pick a quality network!

Remember that Marcis Aurelius, the most powerful man in the world, reached out for help.

I love you all and thank you for reading my newsletter ❤️
