It’s Sunday and it’s story time.

I am currently 53 years old.

April 2022 and my nephew creates a Twitter account. In 4 months his account grew to over 100k followers and he was making a substantial income from coaching smaller accounts and growing a network on Discord.

So at 52 years old I’m inspired. I need a second income and I am on X anyway so why not give it a go.

I create an account on Twitter called Protein Tank. I like the name but I do concede it is a bit weird. The account is focused on going to the gym and weight training. I worked on this account for 3 weeks and had 100 followers.

Frustrated with slow growth and lack of engagement I asked my nephew if I could subscribe to his network. ‘Yes and you can join free of charge’. The network is on Discord and is called Hustlers Network and I am still on there daily.

Everyday I would ask my nephew Aaron questions to understand how to grow. My X education had started.

In Discord on The Hustlers Network I started to network. Messaging accounts of all sizes. Bigger accounts for advice and smaller accounts to arrange retweets and replies to each others posts. In the next 4 weeks I went from 300 to 2k followers.

As my account grew I realised I wasn’t going to sell a product through my weight training posts so I rebranded to a broader niche - philosophy.

I read books on philosophy anyway so this move felt good. A genuine interest in your niche shines through your content.

As accounts I worked with grew so did mine so I was getting retweeted by bigger and bigger accounts as we all grew together.

Anything needs a bit of luck and I got extremely lucky with the group of content creators I knew.

Moral of the story is network, network, network.

Spaces is a perfect tool for networking and growing.

I host a space Monday and Thursday evening and find it hugely rewarding.

Be brave and host a space yourself. Hosting is easy it’s just doing it for the first time that’s the scary bit. If you’re a listener or speaker people will follow you if they like what they hear. Gives your account a personality too.

Network through DM’s. Make it personable don’t sell into accounts you have no relationship with. Build a relationship and ideally a friendship then see where it goes. Great business relationships are created from informal chats now and in the future.

We create content in the same niche so I thought it would be a great idea for us to share ideas.

Does not have to be word for word like this but you get the idea. Put yourself out there and connect with as many people on X as you can.

Growing on X is too difficult on your own and it’s so much more enjoyable working with other people on X.

Be active on Spaces.

Send DM’s, remember friendly interaction.
