Discipline over Motivation
Belief and Identity
Hello Content Creator,
Have a look at the internal dialogue quotes below
I need some rest and a break
I don’t feel very well
I have to take your dog to the vets
My headache is so bad
Work is too challenging at the moment
The type of self talk we all have. No surprise there.
We cannot remove this dialogue we have to replace it with positive self talk but this is another topic.
So on the occasion we are not feeling motivated what do we do?
For one year now I have posted content on my Wise Philosophy account everyday. Has there been days that I have not wanted to post, yes of course but what has that got to do with anything? I post anyway.
This is where the discipline kicks in. I’ve always felt the words consistency and motivation are used too much and much too much emphasis is put on those two words.
Behind the athlete, writer, actor, entrepreneur, 9-5 worker is discipline. Showing up day in and day out.
This is the mindset. No matter how you feel it what you would prefer to be doing you get the work done anyway.
So how do we get into this mindset?
Through our repeated actions. Through our beliefs that shape our identity (Atomic Habits - James Clear).
Let’s keep your identity connected to the role as a content creator on X.
From day 1 you create an account with a profile page that has colours matching in the profile pic and banner. You create a banner which tells the user what your account is simply about and how it will benefit them.
Account created so you post content. Day 1 you post content so you are now a content creator on X. Day 14 you’ve posted multiple times everyday and played the reply game. You are a content creator.
Content creators post content everyday and so you must do the same as you are a content creator. This creates the habit which you continually repeat no matter how you feel.
If you went to the gym to lift weights today and did not drink alcohol you are an athlete and a non drinker. Retain this belief and discipline of going when you do not want to.
Have the mantra that you will never miss twice. Miss a day not posting content or going to the gym? OK let’s allow that but do not miss a second time. Do not miss twice.
David Goggins books are a perfect example of what you can do if you put your mind into something 100%. He published his first book with his own money after writing his story everyday. A true warrior mindset of getting shit done every single day.
Critique what your mornings look like, what’s your routine? Do I ever get into a work flow? What bad habits can I replace. Do what needs to be done to optimise your day and become a voluntary controlled monster (Jordan Peterson)? Be disciplined and make tiny changes to what you do everyday. Remember compound interest. 1% improvement daily means you will be 37x better after one year.
A disciplined mindset is learned. It is a trained habit.
A good life is repeated great habits done everyday no matter how you feel.
Discipline wins over motivation every time.
I wish you all the very best.
